Christmas may be different this year, but it can still be fun!

Many of us can’t spend this time of year doing the things we might usually have done. So, we’ve put together some ideas of Christmas activities that you could do with others or by yourself, including some that would work over a video call if you don’t see family or friends in person.

You could hold a Christmas themed quiz, this example has categories including tv, film, music, literature and a section aimed at children.

If a Secret Santa normally forms part of your celebrations, you can arrange this all online. Draw Names is one service that you can use for this, with the name drawing being done online, and it can even let people know where to post the parcels to, so gifts can be exchanged remotely. You could meet on a video call to unwrap them all at the same time.

For those who are missing out on a work Christmas party, or festive night out with friends, there are many options for running a themed party by Zoom (or other video calling service), such as murder mystery events, games nights or escape room type activities, but for that ‘night out’ feel, how about hosting a virtual cocktail party? Cocktails can be sent to each person joining you, and you even get a bartender provided to keep the chat flowing.

If you love to attend a carol service, there are many being broadcast online for you to still enjoy.

If the lockdowns have brought your street or neighbourhood together, this Christmassy game called ‘You’ve Been Elf-ed‘ can involve many households, and specifically doesn’t require mixing in person, so ideal for doing in a socially distant way.

Test your Christmas movie knowledge on this emoji quiz, or play against others. Guess the title from the emojis used to describe it!

Keep younger children entertained with some of these simple craft activities.

If you love a Christmas movie but have watched the classics many times, here’s a list of new movies being shown on TV this year.

Many Christmas family get-togethers include a game of Charades, you can continue this tradition and play via Zoom, using this Charades idea generator. Another family time staple is Bingo, which you can also organise online to play virtually.
